Huntington Beach, as well as the rest of Orange County has long been a hot bed for musical talent. From The Offspring to Avenged Sevenfold, many of the decades biggest acts call Surf City home. Despite all of that, there is one band whose name is seemingly synonymous with Huntington Beach: The Originalites.
The band started to take shape in the summer of 2008, when friends and classmates Peter Fontes and Daniel Tello decided to take the outlines of songs they had written on guitar (Fontes) and drums (Tello) decided that they wanted to take their music to the next level. That's when fellow classmate and bassist Tim Frankeny came in to the picture. The trio spent the summer covering everything from HB faves Sublime to legendary guitarist Jimi Hendrix, as well as a couple of original pieces. Once winter hit the band was ready to play a few live shows at local spots such as Fountain Valley High and DiPiazza's in Long Beach. It was around this time they met saxophonist Michael Belk. With those four in place, the Originalites were officially born in 2009.
The Originalites are known for their high energy live performance, as well as their huge local presence in the skate and surf communities of Huntington Beach. The Originalites have played countless shows(3+ a week), including OC Observatory, The Yost Theater, House of Blues, The Brixton, Saint Rocke and more.
